I think it looks tacky. You need to sweat some cute girly or something casual and comfortable, while still get to give a better PJ. They are made to stay in the room.
I agree it is messy, but not really know your situation. They're probably just throw a quick message and they will soon go home. Some people find that there is no point in dressing, if you are missing for about 10 minutes.
